Today, Finance Minister, Michael Miltenberger, delivered another healthy dose of government austerity in the 2013/14 Budget Address. However, the Chamber is voicing concern over the lack of support for small and medium enterprise (SME’s) and an inability to move forward in a meaningful way.

Things are heating up in Northern Canada, at least when it comes to the economy.

Alberta and Saskatchewan are usually identified as the resource centers of Canada, while Canada’s north is largely considered a cold, barren region populated by polar bears. But, as it turns out, Canada’s Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut are proving increasingly to be a hotbed of economic growth fueled by a burgeoning mining industry.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced a final N.W.T. devolution deal at the territory's legislature in Yellowknife today.

"Negotiators have reached a consensus on the terms of a final devolution agreement," Harper said.

Harper called it a historic day and applauded the territorial government under Premier Bob McLeod. He also made a note that the final agreement will not be signed just yet.

The Northwest Territories is expected to get a final devolution agreement Monday, which will give the territory control over its Crown lands and resources.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper plans to travel to Yellowknife on Monday to announce the finalization of a deal that would cede province-like responsibilities to the Northwest Territories.

Harper is expected to announce an agreement that will transfer responsibility for managing public land, water and resources to the territory from the federal government, a process known as "devolution."
