Manufacturing

The majority of manufacturing occurs in Yellowknife and Hay River. Products include wood and metal fabrication for the mining and exploration industries, concrete products, cabinets, boat construction, and custom furniture and other home products.
Diamond cutting and polishing businesses have provided employment in the past, taking advantage of the obligation of northern diamond mines to supply product to local businesses. The 2007 recession and extremely low operating costs offshore have created considerable turmoil in this area.
