Aboriginal Partnerships

As a result of land claim and self-government agreements aboriginal groups have taken on self government roles across the Northwest Territories. A complete listing of aboriginal bands, development corporations and other relevent organizations can be found in the NWT Aboriginal Directory.

There are also agreements between the Government of the Northwest Territories and aboriginal groups with the goal to improve economic circumstances in the region. For example, the Gwich'in have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of the Northwest Territories to establish a process toward improving the participation of Gwich'in businesses in government contracting. A Sahtu MOU is being created.
